When you arrive at Morning Sun Retreat you’ll be struck immediately by the peace and quiet as you breathe the fresh mountain breeze and look serenely at the ridges rising in the distance. The morning sun will revive your body and spirit. And you will feel restored.
On the outside the Retreat looks like a modest log cabin, but the inside reveals immediately the soaring Cathedral ceiling, the view windows, and the splendid all-wood interior that glows warmly in night reflections. The open living space, which includes a living room with flat panel HD 42 inch TV with superb resolution, a dining room with a large solid wood table, and a modern kitchen, as well as windows that surround you as you on the cozy sofa or relax in the lounge chair . Downstairs you’ll find a bedroom with an adjacent bathroom as well as a second bedroom with a futon with a luxurious mattress, a lamp and a desk as well as crisp photographs of the Deep Creek waterfalls. Upstairs the loft is equipped with a second futon, desk and television within an inspiriting view. There is also a separate master bedroom with a book nook and a spacious bathroom with a Jacuzzi. Outside you can play ball or throw a Frisbee in the beautifully grassed flat back yard, toast marshmallows over the firepit, or take in the mountain view from the rocking chairs. Two light grey boulders from the original site frame the green landscape.
Even though you may never want to leave the cabin, there is plenty to do nearby. Children will take special delight in the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in Bryson City and Santa’s Land in Cherokee, and everyone will love hiking and riding horses on the trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, tubing at Deep Creek, visiting waterfalls, fishing for trout, and skiing at Cataloochee Ski Resort in the winter. For nature lovers, there is no place more beautiful than Western North Carolina.
